Bargrave stood at the Ashen Ford and decided afterward that the Ford paid nothing. Now the deserter Fordsworn lights false beacons above Wreckers' Hollow, drowning grain-ships for cargo the Concord cannot spare. He insists the Tidewarden takes only the drowned; he only takes the cargo — a distinction he repeats like a prayer. His crew of the greedy and the drowned abandon him, dying, every single night.
