The soured wells began with Gullmaw, and these are his spillage — gobbets of the first rot Kierstein's veins ever carried, sloughed off into the Souring Drains and left to fatten in the dark. Each blob remembers being clean water once. The Grey Mendicants say you can hear it in the way they gurgle: not hunger, exactly. Something closer to an apology that never learned how to stop.
