Every puppet in the Marionette Court is a memory the Quiet Sworn stole, and the Stringwright restages them all, nightly, to an empty house — so the stolen moments have somewhere to go. It was a grief-carver once, or an actor; even it no longer recalls, Ninelle having taken that too. It keeps the memories exercised, it says. It only needs someone to remember the ending.
