On the Revelwrack Shore, the survivors of drowned Vael Anore hold a wake that dares not stop — for the first dancer to stand still hears Ysmr's bell beneath the waves. The Revelmask Idol is their festival made god and jailer both: a spinning, grinning thing that keeps the music loud enough to bury mourning. Nobody drowns at a festival, it insists. That is the rule it made. There are so many under the sand who prove otherwise.
