Varokhaz crawled up through the deep salt-caverns, and when he was cast back down, the salt kept what it had learned. The Saltwrapped Dead are the fallen of the Ashen Ford who washed into the Deepsalt below, crusted white and preserved past all mercy — the Tidewarden's doctrine carried underground. The salt will not let them rot, and the rot will not let them rest, and so they walk, brined and patient.
