The Deepsalt remembers what crawled up through it. Saltcrust crawlers are the small vermin of Varokhaz's first road — creatures of the sea-caverns that followed the Sundered King's ascent and stayed to scavenge the wound. Armored in the same brine-rime that coats the black stones of the Ford, they swarm anything warm, as if trying to carry it, grain by grain, back down into the dark.
