In the Marionette Court, the Stringwright restages the Reach's stolen memories nightly, to an empty house, so they have somewhere to go. The handlers are the stagehands of that grief — stitched figures who work the wires, reset the scenes, and usher out anyone who interrupts the performance. They are gentle with the puppets and merciless with the living. The living, after all, still have their memories. It seems greedy.
