The deep channels that feed the Emberpit's fires have their own inhabitants — serpents that swim the molten runs as eels once swam Kierstein's clean rivers. The Grey Mendicants suspect they are those very eels, remade when the rot soured the waterways all the way down to stone. They strike from below the crust, fast as a memory of water, and leave the ground weeping fire.
