THE WEEPING RIME

Esbren, the Rime-Bound Warden, froze the memories of the Weeping Rime so Ninelle could not take them — and froze the mourners with them. Frost souls are what leaked out: recollections with nowhere left to live, circling the ice that used to hold them. They orbit travellers hopefully, mistaking warmth for remembrance. Their touch is not malice. It is a memory trying to get back inside a skull.
