When Harrowgate's chapels burned, some of the clergy decided the fire had been the sermon all along. Char Priests circle the cinder-shrines in vestments of ash, ministering to the burned dead and preaching the Emberpit's gospel: that what burns is purified, and what is purified need not grieve. They anoint the living with coals. Converts are made quickly, and none has ever recanted.
