The Counting-King's household staff never received leave to die. In the Tally-Crypt beneath drowned Vael Anore they still shuffle the shelves, dusting ledgers whose ink ran to salt thirty years ago. Each servant carries a candle stub it can no longer light, and bows, with terrible courtesy, before it reaches for your throat. Service, in Ossvane's house, is eternal by contract.
