Wherever Kierstein's dead lie catalogued — the Tally-Crypt, the Marionette Court, the Unmarked Boneyard, even the Tomb of the Fallen Crowns — the gravescratch comes burrowing between them, quick as a rumor. The Grey Mendicants think them the crumbs of larger griefs: fingernail-fragments of the unburied, scrabbling toward any coffin with room. They rush the living in a fury best translated as: that plot was promised to me.
