In the Unmarked Boneyard, where Ninelle took the names, then the carvings, then the carver, something still keeps vigil. Palefire prowlers pace the nameless rows wrapped in grave-light, circling each mound as if trying to remember whose it was. They attack the living, the Mendicants think, because the living still carry names — and the prowlers have learned that names can be taken from a body.
