When the Concord's relief-gold was melted into a king that never was, some of it ran off the crucible and pooled in living shapes. The gilt-eyed prowlers stalk the Gilded Reliquary on soft feet, guarding treasure that was meant to buy bread for the starving Marches. Their eyes are coin-bright and coin-cold, and they circle intruders the way misers circle a debt.
